Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations in Lebanon, affirmed that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) remains in its positions despite Israel’s request for them to relocate.
In statements reported by the American channel “Alhurra” on Thursday, Lacroix stated that the peacekeeping force serves as the sole communication link between the Lebanese Army and Israel.
He added that the peacekeepers continue to do their utmost to fulfill their mandate from the Security Council under very challenging circumstances, emphasizing that emergency plans are ready to handle any potential outcomes, good or bad.
This comes at a time when the Israeli military has asked UNIFIL forces to prepare to move more than five kilometers away from the border along the so-called Blue Line “as soon as possible, for their safety.”
