US Senate Candidate: NATO Should Be “Dissolved”
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Whatsapp

Independent US Senate candidate from New York, Diane Sare, expressed her views to Sputnik regarding NATO, stating that the organization should have been dissolved following the reunification of Germany.

She believes NATO is essentially obsolete and perceives significant internal disagreements within the alliance. Sare suggests that the continuation of NATO depends on the tolerance of certain European members towards the decisions and actions of the American and British leadership, which she views as detrimental to their economies.

Sare refrained from predicting how NATO might disband but firmly believes that it cannot sustain itself much longer.

Since the Warsaw Pact’s end and the Soviet Union’s fall, NATO has continued to expand, a move that has been a point of contention with Russia. Tensions between NATO and Russia were exacerbated following the 2014 shift in power in Ukraine and Crimea’s subsequent joining of Russia.

In December 2021, Russia sought assurances from NATO against its further expansion to include Ukraine and Georgia, but the alliance declined. This culminated in Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine in February 2022. In response, NATO increased its troop presence on its eastern side.

At a recent summit in Vilnius, NATO confirmed its intention to induct Ukraine into the alliance, streamlining the process by eliminating the need for a Membership Action Plan, post the conclusion of Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.
