Hezbollah confirmed on Sunday that senior leader Ali Karaki was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, the same attack that claimed the life of the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Israel had announced it killed Nasrallah during an airstrike on Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut on Friday, a death Hezbollah officially confirmed on Saturday.
In a statement, Hezbollah revealed that Karaki, the commander of the southern front since 1982, had also died in the strike. Karaki played a key role in major confrontations with Israel, including in 2000 and the July 2006 war. Most recently, he was responsible for leading Hezbollah’s southern front in support of Gaza during the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
