Syrian media reported that 18 Iraqis were killed in a US-led coalition airstrike on the Al-Bukamal area near the Syria-Iraq border early Sunday.
The airstrike targeted a site belonging to the Iraqi militia “Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada” in Al-Bukamal, located in Deir ez-Zor province, eastern Syria.
The attack followed a drone strike on the US military base in Conoco, in the Deir ez-Zor countryside, where American forces are stationed.
Al-Bukamal, a strategic border area, has been a focal point of cross-border military activity between US-led coalition forces and Iran-backed militias. The region has witnessed frequent clashes and airstrikes due to its importance in controlling land routes between Iraq and Syria. The US coalition often targets militia groups in the region that pose a threat to its troops and interests, particularly after attacks on US bases or personnel.
