Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Aty, stated that Egypt will not stop its efforts to halt the unjustified escalation in Lebanon and to protect the security and stability of the region, particularly that of the Lebanese people.
In an interview with Sky News Arabia from New York on Saturday, Abdel Aty emphasized that Cairo had warned against the risk of escalation, which could drag the region into a broader conflict and destabilize it further.
He reiterated Egypt’s clear stance of working to shield Lebanon and its people from the repercussions of unnecessary and condemned escalation, while also rejecting any actions that violate Lebanese sovereignty and undermine the country’s political unity and stability.
Abdel Aty condemned the repeated targeting of civilians and the bombing of southern Beirut and southern Lebanon, calling it a blatant violation of international law. He stressed that the international system is based on rules that must be respected, adding that the ongoing situation violates Lebanon’s sovereignty and does not contribute to regional stability.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s pivotal role in the region, stating that Egypt’s top priority is to maintain stability in the increasingly volatile Middle East.
