Severe floods and landslides in Nepal have claimed the lives of more than 120 people, with dozens still missing after two days of heavy rainfall, officials reported on Sunday. The intense downpour inundated areas surrounding the capital, Kathmandu, leaving thousands of homes submerged.
Residents described jumping from roof to roof to escape the rising floodwaters, while rescue teams continued using helicopters and inflatable rafts to save stranded individuals. More than 3,000 people have been rescued so far, according to a government spokesperson.
Although rainfall is expected to persist through Tuesday, conditions showed slight improvement on Sunday. Some residents have returned to their mud-filled homes, but major roads remain blocked, isolating towns and villages.
Flash floods and landslides have caused extensive damage and fatalities, with over 60 people still missing as rescue efforts continue.
