Greece, Brazil, and Britain are working to return their citizens from Israel and the Palestinian territories, in light of the exceptional circumstances the region is experiencing, after the Hamas attack on Israel that began last Saturday.

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it was working to return “149 Greek tourists” who were stranded in Israel as a result of the attack launched by the Palestinian Hamas movement, noting that the first group includes 81 people who are expected to arrive in Athens in the coming hours.

The Greek authorities said in a statement that they are “in constant contact with Greek citizens currently in the region, through the Greek Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Consulate General in Jerusalem.”

The Brazilian Government initiated plans to evacuate its citizens from the volatile region. The government’s decision underscores its commitment to the safety and well-being of Brazilian nationals abroad, especially in situations of potential danger.

The Brazilian government has mobilized at least nine Brazilian Air Force (FAB) planes for the evacuation operation. The fleet comprises two KC-30 and two KC-390 aircraft, among others.

In Britain, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that his country’s government is working to determine the status of British citizens in Israel, at a time when one British citizen serving in the Israeli army was killed in deadly attacks launched by Hamas.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asserted the right of his people to defend themselves.

Abbas ordered necessary protection for people, stressing the right of the Palestinian people to “defend themselves against the terrorism of settlers and the occupation forces.”
