The World Health Organization (WHO) is urging people to wear masks and get vaccinated against COVID-19 as cases continue to rise in many countries.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a social media post that “the number of respiratory diseases caused by COVID-19, influenza, and other pathogens has been increasing in many countries for several weeks and is expected to continue after the recent holidays.”

He also urged everyone to get tested for COVID-19 and seek medical care if necessary. “Continue to use masks, ventilation, and distancing to reduce infections,” Ghebreyesus added.

He also called on countries to ensure access to testing and vaccines and to maintain continuous sequencing of COVID-19 to track the evolution of mutations.
