Vice President Kamala Harris has emphasized the need for stability and security in the West Bank and the accountability of extremist Israeli settlers for acts of violence. According to a statement published on the White House’s official website on Wednesday, this stance was highlighted during a phone call with Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
Despite the ongoing conflict, the American Vice President underlined the importance of creating conditions for achieving lasting peace and security that provide equal measures of safety, prosperity, and freedom for both Israelis and Palestinians. She expressed her commitment to continue working with U.S. partners throughout the region to attain this goal.
In their discussion, Harris and Herzog addressed recent developments in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank. Harris reiterated her and President Joe Biden’s focus on securing the release of hostages held by Palestinian factions, as per the statement.
The U.S. Vice President also affirmed the importance of protecting civilian lives and respecting international humanitarian law. She emphasized the need to continue increasing life-saving humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
