The US Department of Defense announced on Monday that it is sending additional fighter jets, including F-35s, to the Middle East in order to protect US interests and ensure freedom of navigation in the region.
This move comes in response to heightened Iranian and Russian activity that has posed threats to US troops and commercial tankers in Gulf waters.
Sabrina Singh, the Pentagon’s deputy press secretary, confirmed that some of the fighter jets are already on its wat to the region.
She stated that these additional assets are intended to provide support and address the increasing malign behavior displayed by Iran in recent times.
The decision to deploy the fighter jets was made by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and other senior US officials.
The reinforcement of military posture in the Middle East is part of a series of measures taken by the US to counter the growing threats and ensure the security of its forces and interests in the region.
