The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that two people were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting a vehicle in southern Lebanon.
According to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the vehicle attacked was operated by a company contracted by the UN.
In a statement, UNIFIL confirmed, “This morning, an airstrike targeted a vehicle driven by an employee of a cleaning company on the Tyre-Naqoura road in southern Lebanon. This company is contracted by UNIFIL.”
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health’s Emergency Operations Center reported in a press release that “the Israeli enemy’s airstrike on a vehicle in the town of Naqoura resulted in the martyrdom of two individuals.”
Earlier, the National News Agency reported that a truck driver narrowly escaped after his vehicle was hit by hostile gunfire while traveling on the border road between Kfar Kila and Adaisseh.
Bullets struck one of the doors and tires. Upon reaching Taybeh, Civil Defense personnel assisted the driver in replacing the damaged tires.
The border regions in southern Lebanon have seen ongoing exchanges of fire between the Israeli military and Hezbollah since October 8, following Israel’s declaration of war on Gaza and Hezbollah’s pledge to support Gaza.
In August, the United Nations Security Council unanimously approved the renewal of the UNIFIL mandate for another year.
The extension maintains the current mandate and presence of international forces tasked with stabilizing the region and supporting Lebanese security efforts.
Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry expressed “deep gratitude” to the United Nations Security Council for voting to extend the UNIFIL mandate. The ministry highlighted the significance of UNIFIL’s presence in southern Lebanon, particularly given the ongoing regional instability.
Reaffirming Lebanon’s commitment to supporting UNIFIL, the ministry emphasized its dedication to ongoing cooperation and coordination with the peacekeeping force.
