Saudi Arabia has issued a strong warning about the “dangerous consequences” of Israel’s ongoing military escalation in Lebanon, calling for an immediate cease-fire to prevent further violence.
Speaking at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed the importance of maintaining Lebanon’s stability and sovereignty in accordance with international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Prince Faisal highlighted that the lack of accountability for Israel’s violations of international and humanitarian law is encouraging further escalation. He warned that this path will not lead to security or stability but will instead fuel violence and threaten regional peace.
Saudi Arabia has joined international efforts to establish an immediate cease-fire in Lebanon, paving the way for a sustainable diplomatic resolution. The US, EU, and other nations have similarly called for a temporary cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah.
Since September 23, Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon have killed over 816 people and injured more than 2,500, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. The escalating cross-border warfare between Hezbollah and Israel comes as Israel continues its assault on Gaza, which has claimed nearly 41,600 lives, mostly women and children, following Hamas’s attack on October 7.
The international community has expressed concerns that Israeli actions in Lebanon could escalate the Gaza conflict into a broader regional war.
