Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced on Thursday that Lebanon will file an urgent complaint with the United Nations Security Council.

Mikati condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against southern Lebanon and the new massacres committed against Lebanese civilians, particularly highlighting an incident in Nabatieh last night where seven members of the same family were killed by Israeli shelling.

According to the National News Agency, Mikati, in light of the escalation of aggression resulting in casualties and significant destruction, consulted with Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib on the situation and requested the submission of a new urgent complaint against Israel to the UN Security Council.

Mikati emphasized the importance of de-escalation and called for all parties to refrain from further escalation, criticizing the continued aggression by Israeli forces, which raises questions about international efforts to restrain the aggressor.

Mikati also mentioned that he asked the Environment Minister to convene an urgent meeting of the National Emergency Body to address the situation and has been briefed by the Health Minister on the health and hospital situation in the south and the urgent steps being taken.

In response to the airstrikes on southern Lebanon the previous day, which resulted in the death of 10 civilians, half of them children, senior Hezbollah official and Lebanese MP Hassan Fadlallah warned Israel of consequences, stating, “The enemy will pay the price for these crimes.”

Hezbollah has been exchanging fire with the Israeli army for over four months, supporting its ally Hamas, which launched an attack on Israel on October 7, leading to an Israeli military response in Gaza.

The Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday came after a military base in northern Israel was shelled, resulting in the death of an Israeli soldier. The Lebanese group has not claimed responsibility for this attack.
