The Israeli military announced on Sunday morning that it had conducted airstrikes on dozens of Hezbollah targets within Lebanon over the past few hours.
According to a military statement, the operations were directed by the Northern Command and executed by air force fighter jets targeting “dozens of terrorist objectives on Lebanese soil.”
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported significant casualties from the intense Israeli airstrikes on Saturday, with 33 people killed and 195 others injured.
Recent days have seen a sharp escalation in tensions, raising fears of a full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah, following a series of aggressive attacks by Israel across various parts of Lebanon.
In a significant move, Israel assassinated Hezbollah’s Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in a devastating airstrike on Beirut on Friday, dealing a critical blow to the Iran-backed group.
The Israeli military confirmed on Saturday that Nasrallah was killed in the strike, which targeted Hezbollah’s central command headquarters in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
Hezbollah has acknowledged Nasrallah’s death but has not provided further details.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the killing of Nasrallah as a “necessary step towards shifting the balance of power in the region for the years to come.”
This statement underscores the strategic significance Israel places on this action amidst ongoing regional tensions.
In a major escalation, Israel assassinated the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, in airstrikes targeting southern Beirut yesterday. Israeli officials confirmed that Abbas Nilforushan, the Iranian Quds Force Commander in Lebanon, was also killed in the attack on Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The Israeli army spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, stated in a press release that the strike on the southern suburb led to Nasrallah’s death.
In addition to Nasrallah, the commander of Hezbollah’s southern front, Ali Karaki, along with several other senior leaders, were killed in the same attack.
