The European Humanitarian Forum has pledged more than €7.7 billion for global crises.
In a statement published on its official website, the European Commission stated that the member states of the European Union announced during the forum, which concluded its third edition yesterday in Brussels with the participation of the European Commission and the Belgian Presidency of the EU, the humanitarian funding planned for 2024, as a tangible expression of global solidarity and the leading role of the European Union in humanitarian work.
The statement pointed out that the EU has committed, in particular, to taking action to address conflicts and preserve humanitarian space, especially given the extremely deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip.
EU ministers expressed deep concern about the current humanitarian situation in the region and called for the rapid, unimpeded, safe, and continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.
It added that the participants also focused on enhancing compliance with international humanitarian law globally in current armed conflicts and welcomed the announcement of an independent non-governmental initiative called “International Humanitarian Law Under the Microscope.”
This initiative will conduct an annual analysis of current armed conflicts and related violations of international humanitarian law to contribute to identifying the state of compliance with international humanitarian law worldwide.
The forum brought together over 1,400 representatives from various segments of the humanitarian community and member states of the European Union and beyond, engaging in strategic discussions to propose jointly sustainable solutions to current humanitarian challenges, according to the statement.
