Cairo persists in its discussions to conclude the war in the Gaza Strip, which erupted on October 7th last year, and to expedite the resolution of the prisoner crisis between the two sides, with the participation of all concerned parties in resolving the crisis, including delegations from Qatar and the United States, in addition to the warring parties; Hamas and Israel.
An Egyptian official source revealed to “Okaz” that the delegations’ talks, which commenced this morning (Wednesday), are expected to continue until late at night, anticipating them to extend into early hours of tomorrow morning (Thursday). He clarified that mediators are exerting significant efforts between Hamas and Israel to swiftly end the war, despite the significant Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip and the city of Rafah on the border with Egypt, where 1.4 million displaced people reside, despite regional and international warnings about the danger of the continued Israeli operations.
The source explained to “Okaz” that Cairo has requested Tel Aviv to end the fighting in the outskirts of Gaza, in order to address the remaining files, foremost among them the crisis of prisoners held between the two sides, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the sector, and the entry of humanitarian aid, especially after Hamas agreed to an Egyptian-Qatari proposal with American support to halt the fighting.
Hamas recently announced its acceptance of the proposal reached by the Qatari and Egyptian mediators to halt the ongoing war between Israel and the movement in Gaza, and among the main points included in the proposal are the exchange of prisoners and allowing displaced persons to return without restrictions, the withdrawal of the Israeli army to the borders with Gaza, allowing relief organizations to deliver aid, and a genuine and serious prisoner exchange deal between both sides.
