US prosecutors have reportedly obtained an audio recording in which former US President Donald Trump acknowledges keeping a classified document about Iran after his departure from the White House.
CNN initially broke the news that investigators indeed possess the tape.
The US Department of Justice is currently conducting an investigation into Trump’s handling of classified material, while the former president has denied wrongdoing.
According to reports, the inquiry is nearing its conclusion and may lead to potential charges.
The audio recording in question is said to originate from a meeting held at Trump’s New Jersey golf club in July 2021, approximately six months after his presidency ended.
Individuals familiar with the matter disclosed that Trump can be heard on the recording acknowledging the existence of national security restrictions on a military memorandum due to its detailing of a potential attack on Iran.
