A high-level Algerian parliamentary delegation, led by Brahim Boughali, President of the People’s National Assembly (APN), is attending the 149th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and its accompanying meetings in Geneva.
The event, scheduled for October 13 to 17, 2024, will gather representatives from legislative bodies around the world to discuss critical global issues.
The Algerian delegation consists of prominent figures from both chambers of the Parliament. Mondher Boudin, Deputy Speaker of the APN and member of the High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism at the IPU, represents the People’s National Assembly.
Joining him are Farida Ilimi, First Vice President of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians and a member of the IPU’s Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, and Mohamed Anouar Bouchouit, Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Telecommunications, who also serves on the Forum of Young Parliamentarians and the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security.
The Council of the Nation (Algeria’s upper house) is represented by Ahmed Kherchi, Vice President of the Council of the Nation and Vice President of the IPU, along with Fouzia Benbadis, Abderrahmane Guenchouba, and Kamel Khelifati, all members of the Council.
Algeria has been an active member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, an organization that facilitates cooperation and dialogue among global parliaments and aims to promote peace, democracy, and human rights worldwide.
The IPU holds regular meetings to discuss pressing issues such as international security, counterterrorism, and promoting gender equality and youth participation in politics.
Algeria’s involvement in these sessions reflects its commitment to multilateral diplomacy and international cooperation on key global challenges.
