More than 16,500 people have been displaced in Lebanon due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes, according to the country’s coordinator for emergency response, Environment Minister Nasser Yassin.

The strikes, which have targeted areas across southern Lebanon, Bekaa, and Baalbek, have caused widespread chaos and forced many from their homes.

Yassin, speaking after a meeting with Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, said the number of displaced reached 16,500 as of late Monday night, with emergency shelters set up in approximately 150 schools across the country. He added that Prime Minister Mikati has instructed the Higher Relief Committee to continue providing essential aid and supplies to those affected by the strikes.

The Israeli air raids have hit multiple towns and villages, and the situation remains critical as bombardments continue. Lebanese officials are working to accommodate the growing number of displaced residents as they cope with the escalating humanitarian crisis.
