Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen accused the Syrian government, on Friday, of “drug trafficking and destabilizing the regional economy.”
Speaking at an international conference on drug control in the Middle East, Lapid stated that “the Syrian regime is spreading drugs and destabilizing regional stability.”
He added that “the drug epidemic leads to the deterioration of many young people, leading them to addiction, a life of crime, and often to terrorism. The main culprit in drug trafficking is the Assad regime, and it must be held accountable for its actions and face severe sanctions.”
Lapid further stated that “moderate countries in the region must mobilize their resources and fight this phenomenon. Israel has offered its assistance in the areas of drug detection, strengthening border crossings, and combating drug distribution.”
