In a televised speech on Thursday, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen’s Houthi group, declared that they would introduce unexpected military “surprises” in their Red Sea operations.

Emphasizing the continuation and advancement of their military activities, Houthi stated that these surprises would catch their enemies off guard.

The Houthi militants have been actively launching drones and missiles against international commercial shipping in the Red Sea since mid-November.

They claim to be acting in solidarity with Palestinians in response to Israel’s military actions in Gaza. These Red Sea attacks have not only disrupted global shipping but have also compelled companies to reroute vessels on longer and more costly journeys around southern Africa.

Additionally, concerns have risen that the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict could potentially destabilize the broader Middle East.

As a response to the attacks on Red Sea shipping, the United States and Britain initiated strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen last month.

The situation remains tense, with the Houthi leadership signaling their intent to bring unforeseen military actions into their Red Sea operations.
