Saudi Arabia Ranks First in World AI Competition for Youth

Saudi Arabia has claimed the top spot in the World Artificial Intelligence Competition for Youth (WAICY), securing the highest number of medals in a competition that saw participation from 18,000 students representing 40 countries, including the United States, India, Greece, Canada, and Singapore.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Saudi Arabia emerged victorious with 18 winning projects, including 11 medals in gold, silver, and bronze categories, along with seven projects achieving advanced rankings out of a total of 6,039 projects.

In comparison, the United States secured 10 medals, while India and Greece each won two medals, and Canada and Singapore earned one medal each.

The global competition was organized by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).

This competition is considered one of the world’s largest, drawing attention from countries worldwide. SDAIA’s commitment to nurturing the talents of Saudi youth and equipping them with the necessary expertise in understanding and harnessing artificial intelligence technology has been instrumental in encouraging participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

Saudi Arabia’s achievement in WAICY underscores the nation’s growing prowess in the field of artificial intelligence and its dedication to empowering its youth in the technology sector.
