A tragic train collision occurred today in Bangladesh, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 people and injuring dozens more, according to reports from local fire officials.

The collision involved a cargo train colliding with a passenger train outside the Bangladeshi capital.

The incident took place in the Kishoreganj district, located in the central part of the country.

Mosharraf Hossain, the supervisor of the firefighting team in Bhoirab, Kishoreganj, where the collision occurred, reported that rescue teams joined local residents in efforts to extract passengers from the wreckage of the train cars.

He further stated that the bodies of at least 15 individuals have been recovered so far, with the possibility of the death toll rising as the situation develops.

Azizul Haque Raju, a senior fire official at the scene of the accident, explained that the collision took place when two rear carriages of the passenger train, known as the “Egarosindur Godhuli,” collided with a freight train headed for Chittagong.

The exact number of individuals still trapped under the debris remains unclear, and train services to other parts of the country have been suspended following the incident.

At this time, the cause of the accident has not been determined. Train accidents are unfortunately common in Bangladesh, with factors often including unregulated rail crossings, signal malfunctions, and poor track conditions.

As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic collision, there is a pressing need for improved rail safety measures and infrastructure upgrades to prevent future accidents of this nature.
