Unknown assailants launched a missile attack on the US military base located in the “Conoco” natural gas field. Local sources reported to “Sputnik” correspondent in Deir Ezzor that a series of explosions were heard throughout the villages and towns surrounding the “Conoco” gas field in the northern countryside of the province. These were attributed to a missile barrage targeting the unauthorized military base that the US army occupies within the field.
The sources confirmed that “three missiles, fired by unidentified attackers this morning, struck the US military inside its unauthorized base, hitting their targets.”
Upon hearing the explosions, the area surrounding the US base in the “Conoco” field witnessed a significant mobilization of US occupation forces and their allied militia, the “SDF” (Syrian Democratic Forces).
Simultaneously, the US army deployed its reconnaissance aircraft over the “Conoco” base and its vicinity. The northern countryside of Deir Ezzor has recently seen significant military build-ups by the US occupation forces.
The “Conoco” field, also occupied by the US army, is the largest Syrian gas field (20 km north of Deir Ezzor) and houses a gas plant built in 2005 through a contract between the Syrian Gas Company and the American company “ConocoPhillips”.
The “Conoco” base is situated near another unauthorized US base in the “Al-Omar” oil field, which is the largest Syrian oil field. US army officers and soldiers are actively involved in exporting stolen Syrian oil through illicit crossings in eastern Syria, preparing it for sale in the black markets via Iraqi Kurdistan.
Meanwhile, Syria as a whole suffers from a severe fuel crisis due to the economic blockade on the country. It’s estimated that about 3 million barrels of crude oil are looted monthly from the occupied Syrian fields located in the provinces of Hasakah, Raqqa, and Deir Ezzor.
