Syrian state media has accused Israel of conducting an air strike over the coastal city of Tartus, resulting in the tragic loss of two Syrian soldiers and injuries to six others. The unusual daylight attack occurred at approximately 5:20 pm local time and was allegedly launched from the Mediterranean Sea, causing substantial destruction in the region.

Reports suggest that the attack may have also affected Hezbollah operatives, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based opposition war monitor, indicating the loss of three individuals from the organization. Witnesses in the area reported hearing loud explosions during the attack. However, the reports regarding Hezbollah casualties have not yet been independently verified by Syrian authorities.

A security official, speaking to the Arabic-language Sputnik network, described the incident as an “Israeli attack against several targets in the Tartus region,” detailing that multiple fighter jets fired missiles. Syrian air defense systems reportedly managed to intercept some of the incoming missiles.

This event follows a similar incident in the previous month when the Syrian news agency, SANA, reported an Israeli attack in the Damascus area. The Syrian Defense Ministry stated that Israel had launched the attack at 11:05 pm, originating from the direction of the Golan Heights, resulting in the injury of a Syrian soldier. During that attack, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the loss of two lives and damage to at least three Syrian military installations.

Additionally, just a week prior, Sputnik reported an alleged Israeli attack on Syria, though Syrian authorities refrained from commenting on the matter. Reports suggested that the attack involved a ground-to-ground missile, targeting a Hezbollah warehouse.

These incidents underscore the ongoing tensions and volatility in the region, with Israeli actions drawing international attention and concerns regarding the potential for further escalation.
