The US issued a call to China on Saturday to cease its efforts to exert pressure on Taiwan, subsequent to Beijing’s initiation of military maneuvers near the island in response to the visit of Taiwan’s Vice President William Lai to the US.
In a statement to Reuters, a spokesperson from the State Department conveyed, “We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure against Taiwan and instead engage in meaningful dialogue with Taiwan.”
The department’s statement affirmed its intention to closely monitor the ongoing exercises.
