The US State Department has emphasized the urgent need for a swift resolution to the long-standing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, highlighting that a diplomatic solution is achievable. Washington continues to engage in diplomatic talks to de-escalate tensions.
US Deputy State Department Spokesman Vedant Patel stated on Tuesday that Washington is continuing its diplomatic efforts to create conditions enabling civilians on both sides of the Lebanese-Israeli border to return safely to their homes. He added that the United States prioritizes the protection of civilians in any conflict.
Recently, the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Janine Hennis-Plasschaert, and the Head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), along with the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, emphasized the need to stop rocket fire across the Blue Line between Lebanon and Israel and urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint.
The United States is intensifying its diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader conflict between Israel and Hezbollah following a recent deadly rocket attack on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. This attack has heightened fears of a full-scale war, and the US is urging Israel to avoid targeting densely populated areas and critical infrastructure in Lebanon, including Beirut.
Diplomatic efforts involve multiple levels of engagement, with US envoy Amos Hochstein and other diplomats working to facilitate communication between Israel and Hezbollah to de-escalate the situation. The UN and other international bodies have also called for restraint and the cessation of hostilities across the Blue Line, emphasizing the need for protecting civilians and avoiding further escalation.
