Candice Ardell, the Deputy Director of the UNIFIL office in southern Lebanon, reported that one of their contractors was shot while en route to provide services to a battalion near the area of Sarda.
Ardell added in a statement that peacekeeping forces transported the injured individual to the hospital after he was wounded on his way to the Spanish battalion in the Sarda region of southern Lebanon.
She noted that “this incident is the second in two days in which contractors supporting UNIFIL peacekeepers have been attacked.” Ardell emphasized, “We once again draw attention to the tremendous human cost borne by civilians in southern Lebanon due to exchanges of gunfire, including those who support the men and women working for peace.”
The Deputy Director of the UNIFIL office in southern Lebanon called for “an end to attacks that harm civilians and those that directly or indirectly affect the ability of peacekeepers to perform their vital duties under Resolution 1701.” She concluded, “The acts of violence that have been affecting southern Lebanon and northern Israel since October 8 must stop.”
