The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States ( US) signed a mutual administrative assistance and cooperation agreement in customs matters on Wednesday, aimed at enhancing economic, trade, and customs cooperation and exchanging customs expertise and information between the two countries.
This took place on the sidelines of the official visit by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, to the United States.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the UAE by His Excellency Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, and on the American side by Troy A. Miller, Acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection.
On this occasion, His Excellency Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi stated that the agreement will enhance the economic partnership relations between the two friendly countries and increase the rates of trade exchange between them. It aims to reduce customs violations and illicit trade and advance the technical customs partnership to broader horizons through cooperation and assistance in exchanging information and expertise. It will also elevate the level of national competencies through training and exposure to best practices in the customs field.
He added that bilateral trade between the countries is continuously growing, based on the depth of the political and economic relationships that unite them, enhancing developmental relations within the framework of both countries’ leaderships’ commitment to enhancing bilateral customs relations and expanding the scope of trade between them.
This includes benefiting from best practices to address challenges that hinder the smooth transition of goods and commodities across shared supply lines.
Al Shamsi highlighted the significance of signing the mutual administrative assistance and cooperation agreement in customs matters with the United States, noting the UAE’s important role in the global trade map as a regional trade gateway and the importance of the United States as a strategic historical and significant economic partner for the UAE.
