WhatsApp is currently testing a new security feature designed to enhance user privacy by automatically blocking incoming messages from unknown accounts.
Named “Block messages from unknown accounts,” this feature is now available to some users through the Google Play Beta program.
Unlike random blocking, this new feature specifically targets accounts that send a high volume of messages in a short period, thereby allowing users to continue receiving important messages from new contacts while protecting their devices from spam.
To enable this feature, users can navigate to WhatsApp’s privacy settings, select the “Advanced settings” tab, and then choose the option to Block unknown account messages, according to WABetaInfo.
The app recommends activating this feature when users notice an influx of messages from unrecognized accounts, providing a safeguard against phishing attempts and spam.
The platform recently unveiled a new feature in its latest beta update for Android, aimed at improving user privacy and contact management.
This update, available through the Google Play Beta Program, introduces a contact syncing feature that enhances the way users can organize their contacts across different accounts.
This feature is designed to facilitate a clearer separation between personal and professional contacts, allowing each WhatsApp account to maintain its unique contact list.
This enhancement is part of WhatsApp version 2.24.18.14 and provides users with the ability to manage their contact synchronization on an account-by-account basis—an improvement over earlier versions.
With this update, users have the flexibility to synchronize or unsynchronize specific contacts as needed manually, offering better control over how contacts are handled across various devices.
Additionally, a new secure backup option has been added, enabling users to easily recover their synced contacts if they switch devices or need to reinstall the app.
