Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Head of the International Affairs Office at the UAE’ Presidential Court, actively participated in key discussions at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York, as part of the UAE delegation led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The UAE delegation emphasised the nation’s commitment to addressing global challenges, particularly climate change, through dialogue, cooperation, and innovative solutions. Almheiri’s participation reflected the UAE’s focus on using its resources and expertise to foster international collaboration and promote scientific advancements.
One of the key highlights was the launch of the UAE FoodTech Challenge 3.0, a global initiative aimed at addressing interconnected issues of food security, climate change, and water scarcity. Almheiri, Co-Chair of the challenge, noted that after the COP28 Declaration on Sustainable Agriculture and partnerships like the one with the Gates Foundation, the critical role of agriculture in the climate crisis is becoming clearer. She emphasized the need for bold actions and transformative approaches to food systems.
Additionally, global leaders from the UAE, US, United Nations Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund participated in an event hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations. This event launched the AIM for Climate Report, encouraging more investment in climate-smart agriculture and food systems innovation.
