A “Sputnik” correspondent in Syria reported today, Wednesday, that a convoy including several Syrian officials was attacked by armed assailants in the south of the country, resulting in minor injuries. According to the correspondent, the convoy included the Governor of Daraa, Louai Kharita, and the Police Chief of the province, Brigadier General Abdel Aleem Abdel Hamid, when it was attacked near the town of Kharabat Ghazaleh. The attack occurred during the governor’s service tour of villages and towns in the central countryside of the province, specifically while the convoy was passing between the towns of Alma and Harak.
The correspondent continued: “Several members of the internal security forces responsible for protecting the convoy sustained various injuries, while there are no injuries among the press delegation accompanying the governor to inspect the service situation in the villages and towns of the countryside.”
A security source in Daraa Province told “Sputnik” that “Governor of Daraa Louai Kharita was unharmed during the armed attack that targeted his convoy on the road connecting the towns of Alma, Harak, and Kharabat Ghazaleh in the eastern countryside of the province.”
