Amidst the tumultuous transition between summer and autumn, various nations worldwide, especially Arab countries neighboring Egypt, have witnessed severe weather fluctuations. Recent concerns have emerged regarding the potential impact of a storm named “Elias” on the region, especially in the aftermath of “Daniel,” another storm that recently affected Libya.

Dr. Manar Ghanem, a member of the media center at the Egyptian Meteorological Authority, alleviates such fears for Egypt. She confirmed that Egypt remains largely unaffected by such atmospheric disturbances, specifically referencing the “Elias” storm. The country, she says, is currently experiencing stable weather conditions across all regions.

Elucidating further, Dr. Ghanem mentioned that “Elias” originated as a low-pressure system in Greece. Due to heavier-than-anticipated rainfall, it led to street flooding. This weather disturbance coincided with an extension of a low-pressure layer in the upper atmosphere, resulting in greater rainfall amounts than the average.

However, Dr. Ghanem distinguishes between the “Elias” system and the recent “Daniel” storm that hit Libya in the past fortnight. Each weather event has its unique characteristics and meteorological phenomena linked to its occurrence. Notably, the severity of the recent disturbances did not match the intensity of Hurricane Daniel.

As for “Elias,” its potency over Greece has significantly diminished, and its trajectory is now heading towards the northern Mediterranean areas, impacting regions like Turkey.

Looking ahead for Egypt, Dr. Ghanem assures that the nation will experience the influence of a high-pressure system in the upper atmosphere layers, leading to prolonged sunlit periods. This comes after a noticeable rise in temperatures observed last Thursday and Friday. She emphasizes that the atmospheric masses affecting Egypt are northeastern, distinctly different from those over Greece.

By the start of the coming week, Egypt anticipates further improvements in temperature, marked by stable autumn weather. Especially by next Sunday, coinciding with the academic year’s inception, a slight drop in temperature is expected due to the presence of lower and medium-altitude clouds.

Temperatures in Greater Cairo are predicted to reach highs of up to 31°C, providing a stable autumn atmosphere. Minor rainfall is expected in scattered regions, although these will not disrupt daily activities. Dr. Ghanem concludes with a positive outlook, emphasizing the overall stable conditions during the initial academic week, as the mild autumnal low-pressure system improves and moderates the weather after the recent temperature spikes.
