Ahmed Ibrahim Khalil, the Governor of Rural Damascus, has personally visited several Lebanese families who have sought refuge in Syria following the Israeli aggression on Lebanon.
During his visits to the town of Sayyidah Zaynab in Rural Damascus, Khalil reassured the families of their well-being and affirmed Syria’s unwavering support.
Governor Khalil emphasized that Syria has always stood with the Lebanese people through various stages and will continue to fulfil its fraternal duties.
He assured that Syrian homes and communities will remain open to their Lebanese brothers and sisters regardless of the circumstances.
In response to the crisis, Khalil directed all relevant authorities in Rural Damascus to be on high alert for any emergency situations, ensuring that immediate support and assistance are provided to the newcomers. Special attention is being given to the needs of the elderly and children, including their health and nutritional requirements.
Furthermore, Damascus Governor Mohammed Tariq Krishati announced the preparation of a hosting centre in Damascus in collaboration with the Syrian Red Crescent and the Syrian Secretariat for Development.
This centre, located in the “Dummar” project, will accommodate up to 1,200 people and is equipped with all necessary logistical, medical, and service facilities.
Several buses have also been arranged to transport Lebanese and Syrian citizens arriving in Damascus from the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing.
In addition, Syrian Health Minister Ahmed Zamaria has elevated the readiness level at all health facilities and medical points at the border crossings with Lebanon to receive and provide necessary medical services to all incoming cases.
The Lebanese-Syrian border areas are experiencing significant displacement activity coinciding with the extensive Israeli bombardments across Lebanon.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that 37 out of 317 healthcare centres in Lebanon have ceased operations due to the ongoing Israeli military actions that began on September 23.
The statement was issued through the ‘X’ platform, on Friday, September 27, emphasizing the critical need to protect medical facilities.
