Syrian Justice Minister Ahmad Al-Sayyed, discussed in his meeting today with Iranian Justice Minister Amin Hussein Rahimi and accompanying delegation, mutual cooperation in the legal and judicial field.
During the meeting, a mechanism for forming a joint legal committee was discussed. This committee aims to defend the common issues of both countries before international forums and condemn the crimes committed, especially as Iran has successful experiences in internationally condemning American arrogance.
Minister Al-Sayyed affirmed the depth of the strategic and historical relations between Syria and Iran, which was reflected through Iran’s stance with Syria and its support. He highlighted the necessity of forming a joint legal committee to defend bilateral issues, in addition to enhancing the exchange of experiences in judicial work, conducting workshops, and coordinating to hold international conferences in this field.
Minister Al-Sayyed stressed that the unilateral coercive measures imposed on Syria and Iran are a clear and explicit violation of the simplest rules of international law and human rights law, adding: “We demand the application of international law, and that there be a legal deterrent for Israeli aggressions against Syria, and that international law returns to its normal application and legislation and not according to the whims and desires that some in the West seek.”
Minister Rahimi praised the strong friendship between Syria and Iran, considering that his country’s stance with Syria in its war against terrorism is a result of these distinguished and rooted relations, and affirmed Iran’s support for Syria in reconstruction.
Minister Rahimi pointed to the role of the Syrian and Iranian justice ministries in confronting the American and Zionist dominance system, especially since they will resort, after the failure of their terrorist war to achieve their goals on Syria, to legal and rights blows, and said: “We are facing a legal war at this stage, and we must defend well and demand in international forums to condemn the crimes committed in Syria and the countries of the Axis of Resistance.”
Minister Rahimi considered that “the recent visit of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to Syria and his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad was a new and distinguished turn in Syrian-Iranian relations, especially after the establishment of security and calm in Syria and the direction towards reconstruction of what terrorism destroyed.”
Minister Rahimi indicated that political and military relations between Iran and Syria during the war years reached their highest levels, and said: “I will follow up during my visit today the topics that were raised in the visit of the Iranian president, especially in the judicial field, in addition to forming the joint legal committee through which we will demand the arrogant powers and international forums to compensate for the losses they left as a result of their terrorism in Syria, in addition to that we will discuss the memoranda of understanding and bilateral agreements signed.”
The Iranian delegation included Askar Jalalian, Assistant Iranian Justice Minister for International Affairs, Davoud Kalantri, representative of the Foreign Ministry and Director of the Asia and North Africa Department, Mehdi Kour, Director of the Minister’s Office, and Iranian Ambassador to Damascus Hussein Akbari.
The meeting was attended by the President of the Court of Cassation, the deputies of the Justice Minister and a number of judges on the Syrian side.
