Saudi Arabia and Turkey have issued a joint statement, affirming their agreement on the significance of Iran’s commitment to the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and its transparent cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Turkish side welcomed the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The Saudi-Turkish statement also agreed on the importance of completing the procedures to activate the Saudi-Turkish Coordination Council and developing joint projects, in addition to emphasizing the need to increase cooperation in the commercial and investment sectors, and to support economic integration.
Saudi Arabia and Turkey discussed ways to intensify communication between the private sectors in the two countries, developing the investment environment, and reaffirmed the importance of stabilizing global energy markets, in addition to promoting cooperation in the fields of military industries, combating terrorism, and exchanging information contributing to achieving security.
Starting from the brotherly bonds, distinguished relations, and deeply-rooted historical ties between the leaderships of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of Turkey and their fraternal peoples, the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, made an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on July 17, 2023. He met with His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah, where they held an official discussion session, reviewing the historical relations between the two brotherly countries and ways to develop them in all fields, and exchanged views on the overall current regional and international situations.
Both parties emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in several energy fields, including supplying petroleum and petroleum derivatives and petrochemicals, discussing opportunities for joint projects throughout the petrochemical sector including conversion and specialization, innovative uses of hydrocarbon materials, and sharing knowledge and experiences to apply best practices related to clean hydrogen, and enabling cooperation between companies to enhance the benefits of local resources in both countries, contributing to achieving flexible and efficient energy supplies.
In terms of climate change issues, both parties confirmed the importance of commitment to the principles of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, with the Turkish side expressing its support for the Kingdom’s efforts in the field of climate change. Both parties agreed on the importance of joint cooperation to develop applications of the circular carbon economy, enhancing policies of using the circular carbon economy as a tool for managing emissions and achieving climate change goals, taking into account their priorities and different national circumstances.
The two parties also emphasized enhancing joint cooperation in the industrial and mining sectors, working to activate the signed memorandums of understanding in the fields of exports, imports, and attracting investments in the industrial sector, enhancing future areas of cooperation in the industrial and metallurgical industries, including the conversion industries and petrochemicals, automotive and spare parts industries, aviation industries, ports and maritime industries, mining industries, and food industries. Both parties welcomed the expansion of the private sector’s participation in both countries in investment partnerships in agricultural fields and food industries, and agreed on the importance of continuing cooperation between them in the fields of environment, water, agriculture, and food security.
