The Russian Embassy in Washington has openly accused the United States of displaying aggressive behavior towards Russia, but it contends that US attempts to break Russia’s resolve are futile.
In a statement issued by the embassy, it stated, “The history of cooperation between the two countries has seen ups and downs, confrontations and détentes, as well as camaraderie in arms and arms races. Of course, periods of normal dialogue between both sides only brought benefits to the peoples of both nations and to global security interests.
However, the current period is characterized by overt aggression from Washington, which has declared its goal – to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. The bet now is on draining the Russian economy, fomenting protest sentiments, and tarnishing Moscow’s image on the international stage,” the statement added.
“The United States has deployed its entire arsenal of sanctions against Russia. Various sanctions are being imposed under flimsy pretexts related to countering Russian influence worldwide and purely selfish purposes.”
The statement also pointed out the US administration’s desire to redraw the global energy map through the use of illegitimate market-averse initiatives, such as imposing “price caps” on Russian raw materials.
The Russian Embassy also drew attention to the announcement of new US sanctions against several individuals and legal entities from Balkan countries, whom the US Department of State and the Treasury Department described as “conduits for Russian influence” in the region. The embassy described this decision as destructive.
