On Thursday, the Lebanese Army confirmed the encroachment of five Israeli military boats into Lebanese territorial waters near the town of Ras al-Naqoura. The incident, which has added to the existing regional tensions, was prominently reported on by the “Al-Mustaqbal” channel on Friday morning.
According to an official military statement issued by the Lebanese Defense Ministry, five Israeli military boats infiltrated the waters in front of the southern town of Ras al-Naqoura.
The statement further detailed that one of the warships entered the Lebanese waters up to a distance of approximately 425 meters. The personnel onboard then launched a flare and directed a light beam for around two minutes over the specified maritime spot before eventually leaving.
The Lebanese statement also disclosed that a similar boat entered the Lebanese waters up to a distance of about 260 meters opposite Ras al-Naqoura. Yet another similar vessel breached the mentioned maritime spot covering a distance of roughly 315 meters.
The report continued to describe another boat that infringed upon the waters for a distance close to 185 meters, with an additional similar vessel also breaching the same maritime location for approximately the same distance.
This incident adds to a series of border tensions between the two nations, and international observers will be closely monitoring the situation for further developments.
