Israeli military reported, on Saturday evening, that a reserve officer with the rank of Major was killed during combat operations in the southern Gaza Strip on Friday.
According to Jerusalem Post, a leading Israeli publication, Major Amishar Ben David, aged 43, from the West Bank settlement of Eli, served as a commander in the Israeli Army’s elite commando brigade.
Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich mourned the loss of the officer, revealing that the deceased was one of his relatives.
Smotrich shared a commemorative photograph of the two on his X account, paying tribute to Ben David’s service and sacrifice.
Additionally, the Israeli military disclosed that another commando officer sustained serious injuries in the skirmish and has been transported to a hospital for urgent medical care.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions and sporadic confrontations affecting the region, bringing to light the personal and national ramifications of the conflict.
The death toll in the Gaza Strip has surged to 30,960, with 82 lives lost and 122 others wounded in the last 24 hours alone, according to a press statement from the Health Ministry on Saturday.
Amid ongoing Israeli attacks, dozens of Palestinians, the majority being children and women, fell victim to a series of airstrikes that targeted various areas across the Gaza Strip since Friday night, as reported by Palestine’s official news agency, WAFA.
