Lebanese organization, Hezbollah, confirmed on Monday that it had successfully downed an Israeli drone that had breached the southern border.
Israeli military aircraft and drones are known to frequently violate Lebanese airspace.
In a brief statement released on Monday, Hezbollah’s military media announced: “The Islamic Resistance, with the appropriate weapons, has shot down an Israeli drone that violated Lebanese airspace in Wadi Al-Azziya near the town of Zebqin,” in southern Lebanon.
An Israeli military spokesperson confirmed that, “recently, an Israeli army drone fell in Lebanese territory during routine activity.” He assured that there was “no fear of information leakage.”
Back in 2019, Hezbollah vowed to down Israeli drones following a period of sustained tension that included an attack by two drones attributed to Israel in Hezbollah’s stronghold in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
In response to these airspace violations, the Lebanese military also routinely fires at Israeli drones.
