The Israeli military announced on Thursday that it is investigating whether Hamas’ top leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, was killed during a recent military operation. An Israeli security official revealed that DNA tests are being conducted on a body to determine if it is Sinwar.

The military reported that three militants were killed in Gaza operations but did not confirm their identities. It stated that there is a “possibility” that one of the deceased could be Sinwar.

Sinwar has been a primary target for Israel following Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack. As Hamas’ leader inside Gaza, he played a key role in planning the assault, and his death would deal a significant blow to the group.

The U.S. government has been briefed on the investigation, with President Joe Biden receiving updates. Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue their intense military campaign in Gaza, including a recent strike on a school that killed 15 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
