The US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed on Tuesday that US forces successfully intercepted a Houthi unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that was detected heading towards two US warships in the Red Sea.

In a statement, CENTCOM reported that the UAV was on a trajectory towards the USS Philippine Sea and USS Laboon when it was destroyed. Fortunately, there were no injuries or damages reported by any US, coalition, or merchant vessels in the area.

This interception comes after CENTCOM revealed on Monday that the Houthis had launched three anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) and three UAVs from Yemen towards the Red Sea, targeting the MV Cyclades, a Malta-flagged vessel owned by Greece.

In response to escalating threats posed by the Houthis, US and UK forces have conducted multiple strikes on Houthi sites in Yemen since January 12. The US military has specifically targeted missiles prepared for launch to prevent potential attacks.

Houthi attacks have significantly disrupted international maritime trade in the Red Sea and the Suez Canal, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. The interception of the Houthi UAV underscores the importance of continued vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard maritime security and stability in the area.
