In a statement released today, the Government Media Office in Gaza reported that Israel has bombarded the Gaza Strip with approximately 32,000 tons of explosives, including over 13,000 bombs. This equates to an average of 87 tons of explosives per square kilometer, as per the Arab World News Agency.
The bombardment has resulted in significant damage to the residential areas of Gaza. Over 50% of the housing units have been affected, with a total destruction of 40,000 homes.
Preliminary estimates suggest damages amounting to about two billion dollars in relation to the destruction of buildings and residential towers. The infrastructure has also suffered damages estimated at around one billion dollars.
Palestinians continue to flee from the northern part of the devastated Gaza Strip to the south. Tens of thousands have been forced to leave on foot in the wake of intense bombing and fierce battles between the Israeli military and Hamas. Amidst this crisis, U.S., Israeli, and Qatari talks are underway in Doha discussing a potential humanitarian truce.
Following more than a month of continuous and severe Israeli bombardment in response to an unprecedented attack by Hamas on October 7, hundreds of thousands of civilians remain trapped in a dire humanitarian situation in northern Gaza, according to the United Nations.
