In a bold move early Monday morning, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq targeted an Israeli Golani Brigade observation base in the occupied Palestinian territories using drone aircraft.
The group, aligned with Iran, stated in a press release, “This morning, the mujahideen of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq struck the Zionist Golani Brigade’s observation base in our occupied lands with drone flights, and we confirm our commitment to continue pounding the enemy’s strongholds.”
The statement highlighted that the attack was in solidarity with the people of Gaza and a response to “the massacres committed by the usurping entity against Palestinian civilians, including children, women, and the elderly.”
The Iraqi resistance group had announced late Sunday that it conducted a drone attack on a target in the Jordan Valley within the occupied territories, vowing to escalate its attacks further.
Armed Shiite factions in Iraq have threatened attacks on Israel in support of the Palestinians following an attack by Hamas militants on Israeli towns on October 7, sparking the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
In response to the Jordan Valley attack, the Israeli military released statements detailing the interception of a drone launched from Iraq and detected crossing from Syria into Israel. There were no reported casualties.
Tensions in the Middle East have intensified since thousands of wireless communication devices—used by Hezbollah members in Lebanon—exploded in an attack widely believed to have been carried out by Israel.
This incident has escalated one of the most severe cross-border shelling exchanges between Hezbollah and Israel amid the nearly year-long Gaza war.
