The Iraqi Joint Operations Command announced on Tuesday the elimination of four terrorists in two air strikes conducted in Kirkuk.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) quoted the command stating that the Counter-Terrorism Service, after three days of technical surveillance, provided precise information about a significant terrorist hideout in the Lilan area within the Kirkuk operations sector.
Utilizing F-16 aircraft, the Army Aviation successfully targeted the location.
A subsequent ground force from the Counter-Terrorism Service inspected the strike site and discovered four bodies, including a key ISIS leader, among the deceased.
The operation also resulted in the destruction of weapons, communication devices, and logistical materials, with the search operation still ongoing.
In a related development, the Baghdad Operations Command detained several suspects, including an ISIS terrorist, in the southern part of the capital.
Preemptive operations by the infantry division led to these arrests under various legal provisions, including surveillance activities in the Badr neighborhood area.
Iraq’s Security Media Cell announced that more than 100 terrorists have been killed this year, most of them high-ranking leaders. This significant achievement highlights the continued efforts of Iraqi security forces to dismantle terrorist networks across the country.
Speaking to the INA, the head of the Security Media Cell, Major General Tahsin Al-Khafaji, credited the success to the coordinated strategy implemented by the Joint Operations Command in collaboration with various security agencies.
He also mentioned the recent arrest of nine individuals wanted on terrorism charges, captured through intelligence operations across four provinces.
Major General Al-Khafaji affirmed that the fight against terrorism is ongoing, with security forces actively targeting terrorist strongholds wherever they are found.
