Iraqi Airways announced the resumption of direct flights between Baghdad and Beijing after several years of suspension. The first flight between the two countries departed from Baghdad International Airport to Beijing Daxing International Airport on Saturday afternoon, according to a statement on their social media platforms.
The company explained that this step aligns with the directives of the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, emphasizing the need to expand the national carrier’s destinations to various regional and international sectors.
The statement also quoted the company’s General Manager, Engineer Manaf Abdul Moneim, saying, “The resumption of this vital route between Iraq and China, which is the second of its kind after the Guangzhou sector, is an important step as it will open new horizons of mutual cooperation between Baghdad and Beijing.”
Abdul Moneim added that the number of scheduled flights for this sector has been set at two flights per week, departing from Iraq on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and returning from Beijing on Sundays and Wednesdays.
Iraqi Airways also announced that the latest aircraft have been allocated for the “Baghdad-Beijing” route, specifically the “Dreamliner” model, known for its high travel luxury and long-distance capabilities.
In April 2023, regular flights between Saudi Arabia and Iraq resumed. This was part of efforts by the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council to enhance economic and investment relations and facilitate the movement of travelers, tourists, and pilgrims. Flynas started operating direct flights between Jeddah and Erbil twice a week.
