Qasim Al-Araji, the Iraqi National Security Advisor, highlighted the real danger that the Al-Hol camp presents to both Iraq and the wider region.
The statement came after a meeting with Jean Jérôme Casabianca, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Iraq.
Discussions centered on enhancing partnership and cooperation with ICRC, as well as addressing the Syrian Al-Hol camp and the displaced individuals therein.
Al-Araji emphasized that Eastern Euphrates is viewed as a precarious zone for Iraqi national security. He underscored that the existence of the Al-Hol camp poses a tangible threat not only to Iraq but also to the entire region.
The official also expressed the Iraqi government’s readiness to collaborate with the international ICRC mission on all relevant matters.
On the other side, Jean Jérôme Casabianca praised the Iraqi government’s diligent endeavors to repatriate its citizens from the Syrian Al-Hol camp.
He commended their ongoing efforts to urge other nations to repatriate their own citizens as well. Casabianca affirmed that the ICRC mission works hand-in-hand with the Iraqi government.
Casabianca provided an overview of the ICRC’s humanitarian activities and strategies during the meeting.
He highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting internally displaced persons and the Iraqi Red Crescent. The ICRC’s efforts aim to alleviate the challenges faced by displaced populations.
