France’s Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné has affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in the long term during his first foreign visit since taking office.
In his initial remarks in Kyiv, Séjourné stated, “I have come here to say that France will support Ukraine in the long term, economically, militarily, and on a humanitarian level.”
Before his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Séjourné emphasized that there would be several visits to understand the needs of Ukrainians today.
The meeting had previously been scheduled between Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna and President Zelenskyy before the cabinet reshuffle that saw Séjourné appointed as the Foreign Minister.
According to a statement from the French Foreign Ministry, this visit to Ukraine is a continuation of Europe’s strong agenda, as highlighted by the French President in May of the previous year at the GLOBSEC Forum in Bratislava, Slovakia, where the focus was on unity, support for Ukraine, and European sovereignty.
