Members of the European Parliament will vote tomorrow, Tuesday, on a project aimed at reducing carbon emissions from heavy vehicles and promoting the widespread use of “zero-emission” buses. This move represents a significant logistical and industrial challenge that concerns manufacturers.
This challenge is crucial for the European climate goals. Trucks, buses, and cars generate more than 6% of greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union, accounting for a quarter of the land transport emissions, according to France-Presse.
As per the Brussels proposal, the aim is to reduce emissions from heavy vehicles sold by at least 45% from 2030 compared to 2019, then by 65% in 2035 and 90% in 2040.
Members of the European Parliament, meeting in Strasbourg, are set to adopt the project before beginning negotiations among member states.
