The European Commission has initiated an investigation into the measures implemented by short video-sharing app TikTok and video-sharing platform YouTube to protect minors, particularly their mental and physical well-being.
In a statement released by the European Commission on Thursday, as reported by the French news channel “BFM,” it was revealed that both platforms have been requested to provide additional information regarding the steps they have taken to comply with their obligations regarding the protection of minors.
This request is in line with the new legislation introduced by the European Union concerning digital services, which came into effect at the end of last August.
The European Commission’s inquiry seeks to ensure that TikTok and YouTube are actively safeguarding the welfare of young users, both in terms of mental health and physical safety.
